With a new trailer and viral campaign dropping, it's clear that there are some elements of Zack Snyder's upcoming Superman reboot Man of Steel that are borrowing from the most effective parts of Christopher Nolan's Dark Knight Trilogy experience. But with the recent revelation that Man of Steel will kick off a shared DC Cinematic Universe with other superhero films to be announced soon, it seems clear that the stand-alone nature of Nolan's films won't be carried over. That's good news for comics fans because, in spite of broad fan interest, we never got a Dark Knight Universe tie-in comic (although there was one that nobody saw because it was exclusive to one cell phone brand on one specific cell phone network, but that's a whole other thing). Will Man of Steel break that mold? It almost seems like we have our first hint that it will, in the form of this image released earlier in the week (warning - this is ALL speculation). One of a number of promotional images and prints released as a group, the image of Zod's henchwoman Faora seemed a bit...out of place. Neither photo nor art by an immediately identifiable comics superstar like Jock or Jim Lee, the image does little to evoke a cinematic look and feel at all, beyond just depicting the character in her movie uniform. The art is decidedly comic book-like in its look and feel, and made us wonder: could this be something that was created for a comics tie-in? What do you think? Does it look more like a promotional image or a comic book cover? And if it is a comic, would you want to read a book set in the universe of the upcoming film?
