One of the biggest gifts Netflix subscribers received yesterday was the release of Captain America: Civil War on the company's streaming service. As a wrestling fan with no WWE pay per view to watch, I was thrilled to have Civil War waiting for me after putting the kids to sleep and filling my belly with a gallon of egg nog.
While watching the film, I couldn't help but notice how many similarities there were between some of Marvel's greatest heroes and the superstars who dominate the WWE wrestling ring. With their inhuman strength and uncanny ability to defy the odds, WWE superstars are live action comic book heroes. Instead of fighting for shiny stones, they fight for shiny belts.
With that thought in mind, I have selected the 5 perfect choices for WWE superstars as Marvel Super Heroes!
Chris Jericho as Iron Man
From the hilariously snarky comments to the obnoxious goatee, could anyone be better suited to play Tony Stark than the WWE's 26 year veteran, Chris Jericho? With his ability to get under the skin of both his foes and his friends, Y2J would be quick to put the Marvel universe on The List!
Sasha Banks as Black Widow
While Becky Lynch may seem like the obvious choice due to her hair color, Sasha Banks would definitely make the better spy. Becky's goofy jokes and thick accent would give her away. Sasha, on the other hand, has exactly what it takes to seduce her enemies into submission.
Kofi Kingston as Falcon
Falcon became mainstream comics' first African-American superhero in 1969. With mechanical wings and some bird mind control, the Falcon was one of the Avengers' greatest heroes. Who better to play Falcon than the WWE's resident high flyer, Kofi Kingston. The only thing Kofi Kingston hasn't done in the Royal Rumble is avoid elimination by sprouting wings and flying around the arena.
John Cena as Captain America
With his dog tags and never give up attitude, Cena has always stayed true to defending the red, white, and blue against all enemies. Not only would the Cenation leader make the perfect choice for the leader of the Avengers, but the guy looks like he was built in a lab. Often dubbed as "Super Cena" for his uncanny ability to kick out of nearly any move his foes would deliver, Cena would be much better cast as the super soldier known as Captain America.
Unlike the real Captain America, John Cena would never pledge his allegiance to Hydra. Trust me. We've begged him to for years!
Dean Ambrose as Wolverine
I know. I know. Wolverine wasn't in Captain America: Civil War and we'll likely never see a cinematic X Men and Avengers crossover because Marvel and FOX forbid it, but Wolverine is my favorite super hero and the Dean Ambrose comparison is too perfect.
Are they both loners? Yes. Were they both a member of some type of uniformed group of mercanaries? Yes. Do they both have an unhealthy attachment for tank tops and leather jackets? Yes and yes!
The only thing that could make the Lunatic Fringe more dangerous would be actual adamantium claws. Actually, those claws would make his flippy, rope bouncey clothesline thing much more interesting.
