Sony and Marvel Studios have reportedly narrowed their web of Spider-Man movie directors to just a few names.

Leading the small lis of candidates are St. Vincent director Ted Melfi and Warm Bodies' Jonathan Levine. However, directing duo John Francis Daley & Jonathan Goldstein, and John Watts are also in consideration. The final decision will ultimately fall on Sony heads Amy Pascal and Tom Rothmans, along with Marvel Studios' head Kevin Feige.

As Marvel and Sony narrow down directors, they are also close to choosing their Spider-Man. Actors Asa Butterfield and Tom Holland are reportedly the lead contenders for the role of Peter Parker/ Spider-Man.

When the new Spider-Man film debuts, it will be the first in a series of movies depicting a young Peter Parker going through high school. And as part of a deal with Marvel Studios earler this year, this iteration of Spider-Man will exist in the same Marvel Cinematic Universe as The Avengers and The Guardians of the Galaxy. The new Spider-Man is expected to first appear somewhere in 2016's Captain America: Civil War.
