Before you go any further, I want you to think long and hard about which episodes of The CW's Arrow and Netflix's Daredevil grabbed your attention to the point that you just knew you'd watch the full season.

Most people would assume the pilot is the most important episode in generating a loyal viewer that will be in it till the end, but when Netflix (via Variety) crunched the numbers they discovered that wasn't the case. In fact, Arrow didn't hook viewers until ... episode 8! Daredevil, which has been praised by all, didn't really sink its teeth into viewers until its fifth episode.

Why those episodes? Well, Netflix doesn't explain that, but let's take a look. Arrow episode 8, "Vendetta," is mostly about Oliver Queen's relationship with Helena Bertinelli/The Huntress, a woman that is hell bent on getting revenge on her crime lord father because he killed her fiancee. Over the course of the episode, Ollie tries to train Helena, who he views as a kindred spirit as they both want to right the wrongs of their fathers. But they butt heads when he preaches justice over revenge.

As for Daredevil episode 5, "World on Fire," it is the episode that follows Kingpin's beheading of the Russian mobster, which I thought would've been the show that hooked viewers. It did for me. In this episode, we get to see what the world looks like through Matt Murdock's eyes and better understand his highly-attuned sense of hearing, smell, and taste. Kingpin and Vanessa went on a second date that provided us with a new perspective on Wilson Fisk.

The Arrow Season 4 premiere airs Oct. 7 at 8 p.m. ET on The CW. Daredevil returns to Netflix for its second season in 2016.
