The Walking Dead Zombies Can't Swim

The new promos for The Walking Dead's companion series, Fear The Walking Dead, has stirred up a question among some fans: can walkers swim? And since those walkers are based in the same mythology as The Walking Dead's, the rules apply to both.

The question was answered at Fear The Walking Dead's Paley Fest panel earlier today.

"Zombies can't swim," executive producer Dave Erickson said at the AMC series' PaleyFest panel on Saturday. "They can wade. That's something we experimented with when we shot the first episode. We've figured out the best ways to shoot water zombies. They don't drown. They keep floating back up."

So, no, zombies can't swim but they won't be the only threat when Fear The Walking Dead returns in a few short weeks and if Rick ever chooses to head out to sea, he won't have to worry about swimmers.

Fear The Walking Dead returns April 10 on AMC.
