After announcing plans a few weeks ago to bring "HoloChess" to life as HoloGrid: Monster Battle, a new hybrid collectible card and augmented reality game, Phil Tippett and Happy Giant's kickstarter for the game has officially launched.
Tippett, the VFX legend who created the monster battling fake game in Star Wars (that was seen again in Star Wars: The Force Awakens) has now made the game a reality with the assistance of HappyGiant. The game is a CCG, and when you scan your monster in, you create your own team to battle.
"For years I've been making monsters for Directors to play with, and now for the first time, I'm making monsters for YOU to play with," said Tippett in a press release. "We're excited about the new fields of Augmented and Virtual Reality, and to be working with our friends at HappyGiant to create HoloGrid: Monster Battle."
The game will be a combination of physical components, like the actual collectible monster cards (Champions, Tanks, Specialists, Ranged/Shooters and Fighters), Tablet/phone stand, game board, and app. When you download the (free) app as part of your one-time purchase that's it: there're no in-app purchases. There will be 30 creatures available at start, and each game takes about 10-15 minutes to play, with local multiplayer (remote if they hit their stretch goal).
Boxed copies run $25 for early bird kickstarter supporters, and $30 for the main edition after. Check out the kickstarter now; it currently has around $30,000 pledged with 28 days to go on the $100,000 goal.
