As Pokemon GO begins its worldwide rollout today, many are wondering how big a role microtransactions will play in the "augmented reality" mobile game. Beta testers confirmed there would be microtransactions in the game (similar to most free to play apps), but pricing was unavailable until the game's soft release this morning.

There's two "tiers" of microtransactions. Players can use real world cash to purchase PokeCoins, which can then be used to purchase items like PokeBalls, Lucky Eggs (which doubles XP) and Incense (which attracts additional Pokemon). In the beta test, players received coins for logging into the app every day, but its unclear if that feature was included in the final version of the game.

Prices for PokeCoins are as follows:

100 PokeCoins: $0.99

550 PokeCoins: $4.99

1,200 PokeCoins: $9.99

2,500 PokeCoins: $19.99

5,200 PokeCoins: $39.99

14,500 PokeCoins: $99.99

And here's the prices for items in game:

20 Poke Balls: 100 PokeCoins

100 Poke Balls: 460 PokeCoins

200 Poke Balls: 800 PokeCoins

Incense: 80 PokeCoins

8 Incense: 500 PokeCoins

25 Incense: 1,250 PokeCoins

Lucky Egg: 80 PokeCoins

8 Lucky Eggs: 500 PokeCoins

25 Lucky Eggs: 1,250 PokeCoins

Lure Module: 100 PokeCoins

8 Lure Modules: 680 PokeCoins

Egg Incubator: 150 PokeCoins

The good news is, these microtransactions are totally optional. Players will receive Poke Balls by leveling up and by visiting PokeStops and Gyms through the game. Other items, such as Potions and Eggs, will also be distributed at PokeStops.
