Niantic Labs provided a brief update for South American fans today, stating they were "working hard" on a Brazilian release just two days before the start of the Summer Olympics. Niantic tweeted out a quick message asking Brazilian fans to "stay tuned" for more news about the game's release.

Niantic released Pokemon Go in Hong Kong last week, shortly before focusing on a new update that outraged many fans. After fans flooded Pokemon Go with negative reviews in protest, Niantic released a short message explaining recent changes to the game and promising better communication.

With the Summer Olympics starting in just two days, many travelers and athletes were hoping to catch new Pokemon in Rio de Janeiro and other Brazilian locales. However, athletes quickly discovered that Pokemon Go wasn't supported in the country, meaning there were no Pokemon, PokeStops or gyms to interact with near the Olympic Village. At least one athlete has racked up $5,000 in roaming charges trying to "catch 'em all" in South America. Pokemon Go has already been released in the United States, Europe, Australia, Canada, and Japan, but is still not out in all of South America, Africa, and most of Asia.
