Pokemon Generations is here. The Pokemon Company released two episodes of the anime shorts this Friday, giving fans a first look at the world of the new animated short series.

The first episode was an overview of sorts, showing Red and his loyal Pikachu battle their way through all six known regions. In each region, Red and Pikachu encounter a Legendary Pokemon, including Zapdos, Zygarde, and Landorus, as well as battle local Pokemon like Nosepass, Vigoroth, and Caterpie. We also see well known landmarks like Kalos's Terminus Cave, the Weather Institute in Hoenn, and Kanto's Viridian Forest. The episode also opens up with some heavy nostalgia, showing Pokemon Red's opening sequence before sequeing into

The second episode introduced Looker, a detective who has appeared in multiple Pokemon game, as he and a team raid the Viridian City gym to bring down Giovanni, the leader of Team Rocket.

Both episodes clock in at under five minutes, with an emphasis on action. In addition to a different art style, Pokemon Generations also shies away from having Pokemon say their name, which is used pretty regularly in the regular Pokemon anime.

Announced earlier this week, Pokemon Generations will release one new episode a week on the Pokemon YouTube Channel through the end of the year. The Pokemon Company released the anime to celebrate Pokemon's 20th anniversary, although it came as a bit surprised to most Pokemon fans.

The anime has promised to show scenes that shine "new light" on moments from the various Pokemon games. While the first episode was more of a cool action sequence than a scene from one of the games, the second episode referenced Giovanni's battles with Red and Blue before disappearing and going into assumed retirement.

Pokemon Generations is the second Pokemon anime to adhere closer to the worlds of the games. Pokemon Origins was released in 2013 and was animated version of Pokemon Red's plotline.
