There is no question that despite divisive reviews from both critics and fans, David Ayer's Suicide Squad was a complete commercial success. While most people were pointing out what DC Films is doing wrong, others were too busy enjoying the film.

What originally started as a quirky offshoot from the main DCEU storyline ended up taking international cinemas by storm, quickly becoming one of the summer's top box office hits.

Suicide Squad continued to break previous box office records as it humbly passed popular Marvel Cinematic Universe movies on the international box office charts, pulling in over $745M total.

In the month of October, Suicide Squad even surpassed the almighty surprise hit Deadpool with $419.6M v $419.5M overseas.

At Variety's Inclusion Summit earlier today, Greg Silverman (President of Creative Development and Worldwide Production at Warner Bros.) said that he thinks Suicide Squad's diverse cast helped make it a box office success all over the world.

In terms of the current Hollywood landscape Suicide Squad does have a diverse cast of main characters that includes a strong female leads, African-Americans, Hispanics, and Asians - very unlike any superhero ensemble film we have seen.

This may have attributed to the international audience having a sense of connection to these characters, but it certainly wasn't the only appealing aspect of the movie.

And to think that this movie is still going strong!

Suicide Squad is still playing in some theaters and the Extended Cut Blu-Ray and DVD will be released on November 28.
