The musical crossover episode between Supergirl and The Flash is shaping up to be one of the most unique events of the television season. With the recent announcements about the episode's songs - which include tunes penned by Crazy Ex-Girlfriend's Rachel Bloom, as well as the Oscar-nominated songwriting duo from La La Land - as well as the casting of Glee's Darren Criss as Music Meister, many fans are eagerly anticipating the release of the episode in March.
That being said, some viewers are a little apprehensive at the idea of a musical episode, feeling that it will detract too harshly from the norm of both of the shows. Which is why Tom Cavanagh, who plays Harrison 'H.R.' Wells on The Flash, recently attempted to pitch the crossover to wary fans during an interview with Entertainment Tonight, with amusing results.
"What I like about our television show is that we are unafraid to push boundaries," he explained. Aside from the upcoming musical episode, this has certainly become something The Flash is known for, with whole episodes centered around ridiculous-seeming villains like talking gorillas and giant man-sharks.
Cavanagh also addressed the very idea of a Flash musical episode, which is something some fans have been pushing for since certain musically-inclined actors first joined the show, including Glee alum Grant Gustin (Barry Allen/The Flash) and former Broadway stars Jesse L. Martin (Joe West) and Carlos Valdes (Cisco Ramon/Vibe).
"I don't know that many times, people have their favorite shows, and then they're lining up and saying 'Okay, now do it in song!'" Cavanagh jokingly pointed out.
Cavanagh, along with several other members of The Flash's cast, will not be lending their singing voices in 'Duet.' That honor will go to Gustin, Martin, and Valdes, as well as Melissa Benoist (Kara Danvers/Supergirl), Jeremy Jordan (Winn Schott), Arrow and Legends' John Barrowman (Malcolm Merlyn) and Legends' Victor Garber (Martin Stein).
The crossover, which concludes with The Flash's 'Duet', will air on March 20th and 21st.

The Flash airs Tuesday nights at 8 p.m. ET/PT on The CW, followed by DC's Legends of Tomorrow.
