After taking a week off to recover from Jughead's wild, scandalous, and punchy birthday bash, The CW's teen-drama television series Riverdale returns with an all-new episode.
Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, the show's executive producer and the writer of tonight's episode, previews "To Riverdale and Back Again" in the latest featurette. "It's Homecoming weekend at Riverdale High," Sacasa explains. "There's a big dance and it's also a big alumni weekend, so all of Riverdale High's graduates are coming to this dance, including all of our parents.
"Alice Cooper is very, very suspicious of Jughead's father, FP," he continues. "So Alice being Alice invites Jughead and FP to dinner before the Homecoming dance."
Archie and Veronica kissed in the previous episode; however, Veronica is more concerned about finding out if her father hired FP to kill Jason Blossom. "So Veronica asks Archie to help her break into FP's trailer and search for evidence," adds Sacasa.

Betty (Lili Reinhart) is slammed overseeing Homecoming and Reunion weekend, but Alice (Madchen Amick) wants her to help with the Jason Blossom investigation. Alice turns to Archie (KJ Apa) and Veronica (Camila Mendes) for help, but when Betty discovers they are working with her mom, she is not happy. After seeing his father FP (guest star Skeet Ulrich) start to clean up his act, Jughead (Cole Sprouse) wonders if it's the right time to give him another chance.
Cheryl (Madelaine Petsch) and Polly (guest star Tiera Skovbye) have both decided to go to Homecoming in Jason's honor, until a revelation waylays their plans. Meanwhile, Fred (Luke Perry) and Mary (Molly Ringwald) attend the Homecoming dance, leaving Fred to possibly reconsider the divorce. Ashleigh Murray and Marisol Nichols also star.
Kevin Sullivan directed the episode written by Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa.
Riverdale stars KJ Apa as Archie, Cole Sprouse as Jughead, Lili Reinhart as Betty Cooper, Camilla Mendes as Veronica Lodge, and Luke Perry as Archie's father Fred Andrews, among others. The series' showrunner is Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, Archie Entertainment's Chief Creative Officer and the writer of Afterlife With Archie, the publisher's wildly popular zombie series.
Riverdale airs Thursday nights at 9 p.m. ET/PT on The CW.
Reason Archie's Mom Came Back
Mary Andrews (Molly Ringwald) begins to explain to her son why she came back, but Archie knows it has to do with the divorce and his drunken phone call to his dad.
She then explains that she didn't push for Archie to live with her in Chicago because she believes Riverdale is better (and safer) for him. It's okay, mom," Archie assures her. "Really, I'm okay. And I mean, it hasn't all been bad. My friends are amazing. Dad and I are closer than ever right now."
He also tells her how much he enjoys writing his own songs and singing them. She's eager to hear him sing, so he invites her to listen to upcoming performance at the Homecoming dance.

Ordering Takeout
Archie has grown accustom to living with just one parent, so it's awkward when he comes home and finds his mom and dad in the kitchen discussing what to order for dinner -- like a normal family. His folks also reveal that they are going to the Homecoming dance together and ask if Archie is okay with that.

Archie & Veronica Cover "Kids in America"
Excluding a few unhappy spectators (Betty, Cheryl), Archie Andrews and Veronica Lodge's dazzling performance at the Homecoming dance -- as seen in the sneak peek above -- has everybody enthusiastically stomping their feet, moving their hips, and singing along.
The theme for this year's dance is "Blast from the Past," so that explain why Archie and Veronica are covering Kim Wilde's popular song "Kids in America," which was released in 1981 and reached as high as the number 2 spot in the United Kingdom.
