Pokemon Go is experiencing a worldwide outage.

Early Tuesday morning, players around the world complained they were unable to log into the popular game. Within an hour, Niantic notified players that they were investigating the problem:

As the issue affects all players, it appears the issue is tied to Pokemon Go itself and not the Google or Pokemon Trainer Club servers. Most recent login issues were caused by a Pokemon Trainer Club server outage and not an actual issue with the game's servers. However, today's outage is reminiscent of the game's early days, when Pokemon Go crashed due to the sheer amount of traffic.

The timing of Pokemon Go's outage is a bit odd, too, as it occurred outside of peak traffic hours. Most of the United States was asleep when the outage started, so its unlikely that the server outage was caused by some sort of traffic overload. It is possible that Niantic was conducting some server maintenance or pushing some sort of server side update, but even that seems unlikely as Pokemon Go admitted they didn't know why the game was down.

We should also note that Pokemon Go forced players to download the newest update last night, which usually means that they're about to implement some sort of new feature.

However, we don't expect Pokemon Go to remain down for long. As of 7:30 AM ET, players on Twitter are starting to report that they can get back into the game, so it's possible that whatever is affecting the game is starting to subside. Players who are able to log in are reporting that the game is quite laggy, so it appears that we might see issues throughout the day. However, the game is still down for a lot of players, so don't be alarmed if you can't log in.

We'll report if the outage continues for any significant length of time.
