‘Dragon Ball Super’ Illustrator Teases a Major Jiren Secret

When it comes to Dragon Ball Super, fans enjoy an inverted relationship with its manga. The story kicked off with its anime before Toyotaro began publishing Dragon Ball Super's manga with notes from Akira Toriyama. The illustrator's 30th chapter just debuted in Japan, and it seems the update has an interesting teaser about Jiren.

Viz Media will upload a free translated version of Dragon Ball Super's latest chapter soon, but fans online have shared its Japanese scans. Over on Twitter, Yonkou Productions summarized an interesting note Toyotaro had to say about his new chapters.

When the illustrator was asked why Jiren fights, Toyotaro promised fans the character would surprise them.

"I'll be losing this time as well Can you really say that life is fair? It will be different from the anime version. I'll shed just a little bit of light on Jiren's secret."

Fans will know that the Dragon Ball Super manga does go deeper into its stories and their lore. Toyotaro fleshed out more of the 'Future Trunks' saga and how Zamasu came to meet Gowasu before he turned to the dark side. The manga will move into the heart of the 'Universal Survival' saga soon, so there is plenty Toyotaro can expand there.

After all, Jiren has become one of the anime's stand-out fighters thanks to his insane power. In the anime, the Pride Trooper was able to take down Goku even after the hero temporarily tapped into Ultra Instinct. Jiren is said to be as strong if not more so than his God of Destruction, Belmod, but fans don't know why or how the guy got so strong. If the anime cannot answer that for fans, then Toyotaro should be able to within the pages of an upcoming manga chapter.

Dragon Ball Super's "Universal Survival" saga is part of the recent simulcast agreement that sites like Crunchyroll and Funimation have scored. Dragon Ball Super airs on Crunchyroll Saturdays at 7:15 p.m. CST. Toonami airs the English dub on Adult Swim Saturdays at 11:30 p.m.
