With Hurricane Irma battering Puerto Rico and bringing potentially hundreds of millions of dollars in damages to a region already suffering from a massive debt crisis, comic book writer Edgardo Miranda-Rodriguez is putting together an art exhibition to raise money for the Hurricane Relief Effort of Puerto Rico.

The exhibition opens October 4, kicking off New York Comic Con week, at the Casita Maria Center for Arts & Education, and runs through January 6, 2018. There will be an opening night event on October 4 at 6 p.m. More details can be found on the poster below.

"Puerto Rico is already enthralled in a crippling debt crisis upwards of $120 billion," Miranda-Rodriguez told ComicBook.com. "The impact of Hurricane Irma has weakened the island beyond measure given it's compromised infrastructure. Some parts of Puerto Rico are looking at weeks others months without power. In my effort to raise awareness to the humanitarian issues affecting these 3.5 million American citizens, I'm dedicating 100% of the sales of art prints for my upcoming exhibition to the Hurricane Irma relief. Funds will go directly to Puerto Rico non-profit grassroots organizations that are on the ground working to restore the island and it's people to a sense of normalcy. Not all heroes wear capes nor have superpowers. Sometimes the heroes we've been waiting for can be ourselves."

Miranda-Rodriguez said that they will be selling art prints online for those who cannot attend the event, and that he will be updating fans on the specifics via social media.

Specific details on the event can be found on Facebook.

Miranda-Rodriguez has worked on a number of high-profile comics projects in the last couple of years, including co-writing a Guardians of the Galaxy story with Darryl McDaniel from Run-DMC and working with John Leguizamo on his upcoming comic book series, which will debut at NYCC.

"The comic book is a New Yorkers tale," Miranda-Rodriguez said when that book was announced. "The streets, the clothes, the people....John's work has always been very grounded in a Latin New York; this comic book from the talent to the story will reflect that."
