Digital tools have allowed artist an incomparable amount of options when creating, but regardless of the technology behind the artwork, it all starts with an idea and the talent to bring that idea to life. Artist Carlos Dattoli is one of those gifted people who is able to channel those talents into some amazing pieces of art featuring some of geekdom's most popular characters.
Dattoli is a professional illustrator and concept artist who in his spare time loves to depict some of his favorite heroes in gorgeous and realistic fashion. His redesigns are more grounded, as seen in his Power Rangers group shot, and his other Power Rangers series features movie quality lighting effects and dense and detailed texture work. His backgrounds on those pieces are equally compelling with each one's Zord hovering behind them, and the Yellow Ranger portrait is easily one of the slickest renditions of the character to date.
If Power Rangers aren't your thing, Dattoli's portfolio also features some superhero fare, like his "Ode To My Childhood" series. The series includes stunning renditions of Spawn, Batman, The Hulk, and The animated series X-Men, an epic piece that features a litany of X-characters from the hit show. As for Spawn, the character is what drew him into comics in the first place.
"I've always been fascinated with the design of "Spawn", I think "Todd McFarlane" did an amazing job on this guy, and what I loved the most is that epic dirty red cape of his, it gives him so much personality, so if I have "Spawn" in my memories, it is because it was one of the few comic books I ever bought and what attracted me to it, was its amazing art, I remember thinking it was one of the hardest things to draw back then, I did my first attempt like 10 years ago, so now, I wanted to make a second attempt, but this time with my own style, So this is why "Spawn" made it into my childhood memories ode."
