Here's How Lynda Carter Helped Influence Wonder Woman

With Wonder Woman debuting in theaters this weekend, the Princess of Themyscira will be celebrated by moviegoers across the world. But for many, the quintessential portrayal of the character is courtesy of Lynda Carter, who played Diana Prince in many television episodes during the late 1970s, as well as a TV movie.
As it turns out, Carter was influential in helping bring Gal Gadot's newer version of the character to the big screen. The actress, who has most recently been seen playing the President on The CW's Supergirl, revealed to Entertainment Weekly that she kept in contact with Wonder Woman director Patty Jenkins throughout the film's development.
"Over a period of quite a few months, we talked on the phone." Carter explained. "It really was [about] why I thought my portrayal worked, why it lived, what my intentions were from the beginning about the character. We were so much on the same page of the interpretation of what embodies this character. [Wonder Woman is] not thinking she's all that. She's powerful, but [she's sensitive]..."
For anyone who is still skeptical about how Gadot's performance will compare to her predecessor, Carter gave her full endorsement.
"I like her. I just hope [the film is] successful, that's all. I think she's probably pretty kick-ass, and it's a whole new way to empower women. …We're not black or white or brown or orange or ginger hair or gray hair or short or skinny or tall or fat. We're women, and we relate to one another in a very human, sisterly way."
