The Flash has plenty to look forward to with its fourth season, but that doesn't mean its creator are ignoring everything season three brought out. Fans of The CW series had notable objections to The Flash last season thanks of its overly dark tone and drawn-out plot. So, it shouldn't be too surprising to heard that showrunner Todd Helbing would make a major change to last season if he could.

The executive producer spoke with Den of Geek at San Diego Comic Con, and it was there Helbing revealed the thing he wants to change most about The Flash's most recent season.
"One thing we probably would have changed would have been to reveal Savitar a little bit earlier, especially since Grant is so amazing with his evil, future version of himself," he admitted. "It became tricky but I'm certainly proud of what we did last season."
For fans, The Flash's affair with Savitar and his secret identity felt like an unnecessarily long one. Many had already figured out the twist by the time the show let the 'secret' loose, and the plot's overly complicated turns made it hard to invest in Future Flash. If Savitar's identity were revealed sooner, Grant Gustin would've had more time to make Future Flash more sympathetic to fans, but the season dropped the ball with the villain this time around.
The Flash's villain was not the only thing fans took issue with in season three; Audiences were also thrown by the show's abruptly dark tone. The Flash initially differentiated itself from Arrow with its fun aesthetic, but DC's Legends of Tomorrow has been the only superhero series as of late to bring that kind of excitement to TV. Helbing reiterated The Flash's plans to adopt a lighter tone in season four, and the series will also bring in a different kind of baddie with the Thinker. The show will pit the fastest man alive with the fastest mind next season, so audiences should expect a tad less angst to go around when The CW series returns this fall.
With the help of his adoptive father, Joe West (Jesse L. Martin), his lifelong best friend and love interest Iris West (Candice Patton), and his friends at S.T.A.R. Labs — Cisco Ramon (Carlos Valdes), C.S.I Julian Albert (Tom Felton), and an Earth-19 novelist named H.R. Wells (Tom Cavanaugh) — Barry continues to protect the people of Central City from the meta-humans that threaten it.
