The Flash Season 4 Set Photos Reveal Wally West in Flash Costume

CW's The Flash is coming off of a somewhat lackluster season 3, so fans are expecting a nice boost of intrigue and excitement from season 4 of the show.
Well, today we finally have something worth being intrigued and excited over: New set photos reveal that Flash actor Keiyan Lonsdale - who plays the TV version of Wally West - will be officially taking over the mantle of The Flash!
When season 3 ended, Barry Allen (Grant Gustin) sacrificed himself to The Speed Force, filling the void left by his evil time remnant clone, Savitar. THere's been a lot of speculation about just how long Barry will be gone, and what Team Flash will do to protect Central City in his absence - and now we at least have a little bit of insight about the latter question.

Whle these set photos are something of a big revelation, there is, as always, the looming question of how long this change in status quo will last. The Flash season 3 made fans go wild with excitement when it was revealed that the season would begin with one of the most iconic Flash storylines of the last decade, "Flashpoint." However, when the whole "Flashpoint" storyline only last for the short span of the season premiere, with none of the complexity and intrigue of its comic book counterpart, fans were pretty incensed.

Wally West taking up The Flash mantle was a major event in DC Comics from the late '80s through the entire '90s and into the 2000s, during a span of time when Barry Allen was considered to be dead, similarly sacrificing himself to the Speed Force during the famous "Crisis On Infinite Earths" event. Indeed, for an entire generation of '90s kids, Wally West was The Flash - so seeing that event teased for a small time on the show before Barry steps back in, probably won't go over to well with a nostalgic portion of the fanbase.
The same goes for the idea of having an actor of color like Lonsdale step into a leading role - only to have it snatched away again.
Ironically enough, Lonsdale himself already spoiled the excitement of what we're seeing here, when just last month he stated in an interview that Wally won't be inheriting the mantle of Flash! So was he misleading fans to cover the spoiler? Or is this (as we assume) simply a temporary solution to Barry's absence that the show will quickly move past?
...If history is any indication, it will be the latter case.

The Flash will return to TV on October 10 at 8 p.m. ET/PT on The CW.
