Cinema-savvy fans who go to see Justice League in theaters this fall will certainly notice that the format of the film is different from what they're used to seeing from director Zack Snyder. To shoot Justice League, Snyder shot in the film in 1:85 aspect ratio, which is wider than a traditional 16:9 widescreen format.
Snyder explained to inquiring cinephiles why he chose to shoot Justice League in the 1:85 ratio in a recent Reddit thread, which you can read below.
For some viewers, 1:85 can seem a little "off" in shape and scope, but films like Chris Nolan's Dunkirk have certainly made event attractions out of presenting films in that wider scope that can only be truly appreciated in full IMAX theatrical glory. One has to wonder if Joss Whedon's reshoots on the film are also using that format for consistency, or if Whedon used his own shooting style an dformat for his sections of the film.
