After last night, when two major characters from different shows -- and, indeed, different Earths -- hooked up in the first night of The CW's "Crisis on Earth-X" event, fans were introduced to another unexpected couple in tonight's episode of The Flash, part three of the four-part, two-night event.

In this case, the characters are new -- or at least mostly new. The Ray, initially billed as a gay character and set to star in his own animated series on CW Seed, turns out to be in a relationship with Citizen Cold.

That, of course, would be the Earth-X version of Leonard "Captain Cold" Snart, although his Earth-X doppelganger is less evil, wears comics-accurate glasses into battle, and goes by Leo.

The Ray first appeared when, at the start of the episode, he encountered various superheroes who had been tossed into a concentration camp on Earth-X; he, too, was there, having been thrown in there for being gay. Citizen Cold came to free him (and the others), leading to their eventual reveal as a couple in the Freedom Fighters' headquarters.

Cold, for his part, is pretty clearly bisexual, since he spends a bit of time flirting with Sara Lance (not entirely unlike his Earth-1 counterpart did).

"Crisis on Earth-X" began last night at 8 p.m. ET/PT and runs for two hours beginning at 8 yesterday and today. Unless you have an easy way of getting caught up on your DVR, hang around and first thing in the morning you can buy digital copies on iTunes, Vudu, and other digital streaming services -- or watch it for free with ads on The CW's website or app.

The CW's DC superhero series will return with their midseason finales next week, beginning with Supergirl at 8 p.m. ET/PT and continuing with The Flash (Tuesday at 8), DC's Legends of Tomorrow (Tuesday at 9) and Arrow (Thursday at 9).
