Another new League of Legends Keystone Rune has been revealed, and if assassins stay in the spot that they are due to the recent lethality buffs, the Hunt of the Blood Moon rune could lead to some serious snowballing.

Hunt of the Blood Moon is a temporary name for the new Keystone Rune that comes from the Domination rune path, but given what it does, the name seems fitting when you recall the powerful high-speed buff that's available in the Hunt of the Blood Moon game mode.

This new rune does something that has yet to be seen in League – it turns your boots into an active item. By activating and channeling the new rune, players will move much quicker with a big damage bonus applied to the champion's next attack or ability. Below are the current stats for the rune that are certainly subject to change before it's released:

  • Enchants your boots with the active effect 'Blood Moon's Call.'
  • Channel for 3 seconds to activate Blood Moon's Call. Gain 35% movement speed for 15 seconds. Damaging attacks or abilities end Blood Moon's Call, dealing 60 - 140 based on level (+0.2 bonus AD)(+0.3 AP) bonus damage.
  • Cooldown: 180 seconds. Starts the game on cooldown and goes on cooldown if damaged or interrupted while channeling.

Fifteen seconds is quite a long time for a speed boost, especially one that can be channeled while moving like Edge of Night doesn't seem to be ended prematurely by being attacked after the channel is complete. Because of this, they're looking into adding some sort of counterplay to let enemies know that the keystone has been activated, similar to the sounds and visuals that Warwick's W makes when he's hunting someone nearby.

Assassins are probably one of the first classes that come to mind when thinking of the rune, but given its AD and AP scaling, it looks like it'll absolutely be a viable choice for AP mid laners who need to get to the bot lane quickly. Darius is also another champ that comes to mind who could make good use of it, and in the Runes Corner post, Riot Stashu mentioned that move-fast junglers like Hecarim and Rammus could also move insanely fast using this with their other movement abilities.

Some players brought up comments about this rune being overpowered combined with other mobility lethality items, but there's likely more work to be done on Duskblade and others before the rune system rolls out. Keeping the item loadout from being too cluttered is also something they're looking to avoid, so there may not be too many more runes with active abilities down the line.
