Get Ready to Walk a Ton for Legendary Pokemon Candies in Pokemon Go

Legendary Pokemon are coming to Pokemon Go later today, but players should be prepared for a lot of walking once they capture one of these ultra-powerful creatures. An update to Pokemon Go's GAME_MASTER file (the in-game file that controls all of a Pokemon's stats and moves) has confirmed that players will need to walk a whopping 20 kilometers to earn a single Legendary Pokemon candy when that Pokemon is set as the player's "Buddy".

And here's the thing: if Legendary Pokemon are like every other Raid Boss, then they'll automatically be at Level 20 when players catch them. That means that players will need a ton of candies in order to get them to full gym fighting potential.

Legendary Pokemon can only be caught during special Raids, so there won't be any other way to collect candies for specific Legendary Pokemon except to either catch them after Raids or by walking them. Since players won't be able to defend gyms, players can't earn Candies for them by feeding them either.

Of course, players can also power up Legendary Pokemon by using Rare Candies, which are also given out after beating a Raid Boss. Rare Candies work on any Pokemon, including Legendary Pokemon. In a way, making players walk such a long distance to walk for candies is a guarantee that players with Legendary Pokemon will hoard their candies exclusively for those Pokemon.

The first Legendary Pokemon is set to appear tonight at Pokemon Go Fest, provided that the event doesn't descend into full-blown chaos due to network and crash issues. Several icons for Shiny Legendary Pokemon were also found in a recent update to the game.
