League of Legends has announced a plan to reward players who racked up tons of honors in the previous honor system.

Revealed on Monday, it's been confirmed that the rewards are being rolled out to players right now with all of the gifts expected to be received by Sept. 30. For players who amassed certain amounts of honors from the previous categories or those who received a ribbon at some point for consistently positive behavior in their games, Summoner Icons will be distributed accordingly.

Five different icons make up the selection of rewards, four of them tied to the four specific honor categories – Honorable Opponent, Friendly, Teamwork, and Helpful – from the now-replaced honor format. The requirements for receiving each of the Summoner Icons can be found below:

  • Honorable Opponent Icon – received an Honorable Opponent ribbon or were in the top 10% of Honorable Opponents in your region
  • Friendly Icon received a Great Leader ribbon or were in the top 10% of Friendly players in your region
  • Teamwork Icon – received a Great Teammate ribbon or were in the top 10% of Teamwork honors in your region
  • Helpful Icon – received a Great Mentor ribbon or were in the top 10% of Helpful players in your region

The last Summoner Icon that's not tied to any specific category is more of a catch-all for players who were able to participate in the old-school honor system at all. It doesn't take much to earn the final Summoner Icon, only requiring 10 or more honors earned by the time that the old honor system was retired.

Since the reveal of the honor rewards, it didn't take long for players to start voicing their opinions about the honor rewards. Receiving Summoner Icons as compensation for various events has become somewhat of a joke at this point with the League community, but some players aren't taking the rewards news with a laugh.

In one of the several Reddit posts that have already appeared about the news, players weren't too enthusiastic to receive more Summoner Icons as a reward for positive behavior, particularly the last one that seemed pretty easy to get. Riot NaKyle addressed that concern in the comments of the initial post by saying that it was essentially a participation trophy, but the other four icons are the ones that should set players apart from each other.

Players should start to see the icons gifted to their accounts now if they earned them, and the process should be completed by Sept. 30.
