New Pokemon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon Trailer Teases Pokemon's Dark Side
Pokemon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon is shaping up to be a much darker Pokemon game than past [...]
The Ultra Beasts are Coming
As if we hadn't figured it out already, the Ultra Beasts will be front and center in the new Pokemon game.
The Ultra Beasts are extradimensional creatures that broke through to the Pokemon world via actual holes in reality. Necrozma, the Legendary Pokemon at the center of Pokemon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon, was supposedly an Ultra Beast stranded on Earth in the distant past, but Pokemon Sun and Moon didn't really follow up on that bit of mythology.
While the Ultra Beasts played a big role in Pokemon Sun and Moon, players didn't get a chance to battle them until after they had beaten the rest of the game. However, it looks like the Ultra Beasts will be invading the Alola region a lot sooner in Pokemon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon...or at least we'll get a chance to see more of their rampage through the region.
In one brief clip, we see Guzzlord appear in the Ruins of Abundance, confronting the Island Kahuna Nanu. We also see Xurkitree and the two new Ultra Beasts (code named Burst and Assembly) burst into the Alola region as well.
prevnextPokeRiding...Legendary Pokemon?!
It looks as if players will get to ride a Legendary Pokemon for a second consecutive generation. Two brief clips appeared to show the player character riding Solgaleo and Lunala through some sort of interdimensional tunnel. The player was dressed in what appeared to be a modified PokeRide outfit, perhaps so the player can withstand the hostile Ultra Space environment.
We already knew that Pokemon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon was going to introduce new PokeRide systems, but we weren't expecting to see Solgaleo and Lunala as Ride Pokemon! We'll have to see how the Legendary Pokemon are used and whether it's just a onetime feature or something that players can access over and over.
prevnextWho is Zionira?
A Pokemon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon poster teased several mysterious new characters in armor. We got our first uninterrupted look at those characters, one of whom is named (at least in the Japanese version) Zionera.
It appears that, judging from the symbol on his arm, that Zionera is part of a new organization. We don't know if he's working on his own or collaborating with Team Skull and the Aether Foundation, but he seems to know a lot about Necrozma. In the trailer, Zionira briefly mentioned how Necrozma impacted the Alola region, but they didn't give much context to his trailer.
It's possible that Zionera will replace Guzma and Lusamine as the primary antagonists of the new games, or he could be some sort of neutral party. We'll have to find out when Pokemon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon comes out in November!
