Not that he hasn't said as much before, but Ghostbusters star Ernie Hudson still hopes to appear in the planned third film, even if he sounded less sure than Dan Aykroyd or Ivan Reitman that the project is going to happen.

"It's still on track, and I just saw Ivan about two weeks ago. And he says 'on track,' but he didn't say that with a lot of confidence, so I don't know!" Said the actor, who played Winston Zeddemore in both the 1984 original and 1989's Ghostbusters II, in a recent interview.

Both Reitman and Aykroyd have always been pretty enthusiastic about the project when speaking in public, even at times when it seemed the film would never get made. In the recent past, it's sounded like an official announcement was more and more imminent, but there's a distinct possibility based on buzz around the project that Hudson might not have a role -- or at least a large one.

That's because Bridesmaids director Paul Feig is expected to resurrect the franchise in a new, female-driven film. A number of names have been bandied around, but Melissa McCarthy and Emma Stone seem to be the common denominators between numerous online rumors, a Variety report and franchise star Bill Murray's personal picks.

"I'd love to see Winston, the character, kind of become the director of global Ghostbusters," Hudson told Spinoff Online. "Because now there are Ghostbuster chapters all over the world! I'd just love to be a part of it, love to see it happen."
