Following the events of The Walking Dead's midseason premiere, one would assume Carl will literally be seeing the world differently, but Chandler Riggs says the character will be changing his views on the world figuratively, as well.

Carl has been an ever-changing character since The Walking Dead started in 2010. The young character has experienced not only the apocalypse but was raised by another man for a brief period of time, thought his father dead, and lost his mother as his little sister was born. Carl has killed and done what he thinks necessary to survive. Riggs has taken note of all of the factors that go into Carl's character.

"It's really interesting, because at the end of Season 3 Carl was determined to not let anyone else into the prison because he was afraid that someone could harm him or his dad or his sister. That's why he killed that kid," Riggs tells TVGuide. "But then at the beginning of Season 4, he was completely reversed, and was totally welcoming to anyone who wanted to come to the prison. So it'll be interesting to see how Carl's relationships with others, kids especially, will change, since it was Ron who shot his eye out. At this point, Rick seems pretty okay with letting new people in, but after this event this might change, I don't know."

The days on set will be different for the young actor from now on. He'll either have prosthetic makeup on to showcase his new scar or an eyepatch big enough to hide it. "I think the eye is more traumatic for both of us," Riggs says "For me, as an actor, I have to deal with one eye on the set now. And for Carl, he's going to see the world a lot differently as the result of this one incident. I think this time is going to harden him more."

The Walking Dead airs Sundays at 9 PM ET on AMC.
