Carrie Fisher's Classic SNL Appearance Has Resurfaced Online

As the world tries to confront their grief and mourning after the loss of Star Wars icon Carrie Fisher (and recently her mother Debbie Reynolds), fans have been turning back to her extensive body of work to relive moments that touched them.

It's become readily apparent in looking back at Fisher's many performances that the actress was a great comedienne. From cameo roles in films like Austin Powers or Scream 3 to featured spots on modern comedy shows like 30 Rock, Fisher was none too shy about doing send ups of her own life or onscreen persona.

Case in point: Carrie Fisher's appearance on Saturday Night Live in 1978. Sharing screen time with comedy icons like Bill Murray, Jim Belushi, Dan Aykroyd, Gilda Radner and the rest, Fisher used the sketch comedy show to do some wonderful sendups of her Princess Leia persona.

As silly as it seems, the beach sketch's sly commentary on the transition from '50s Baby-Boomer culture to '60s hippie counter-culture is pretty much Fisher in a nutshell: On the one hand, a sci-fi movie icon, thanks to Star Wars; on the other hand, an insightful and sardonically funny humorist, who was unafraid to take on topics like politics, gender, and other social issues.
