New Monster Created By Shin Godzilla's Visual Team To Promote Japanese Tourism

Godzilla, the King of Monsters, is one of the most well known monsters of all time. Recently, Godzilla made a comeback as the blockbuster hit Shin Godzilla swept the Japanese Academy Awards and made a big splash in America. As a publicity move, Japan created a new giant kaiju to get some new tourists. The new massive monster can be seen in the epic commercial from the Kitakyusu Sightseeing Association.

In between Japan's main island and a southern island Kyushu, there is a strait of water that has an insanely powerful current. The new travel ad suggests that the current may be so powerful that it can stop a terrifying monster in it's tracks. The creative team at Shirogumi, who were the team that did the visuals for Shin Godzilla, created a brand new monster to show off this suggestion.

The new monster, which has offically named Kaisendon, looks like a combination of octopus, puffer-fish, crab, and has multiple extra arms. In the commercial this terrifying beast emerges from the water, in epic Godzilla fashion, and towers threateningly over the bridge. But as it starts making its way towards the frightened bystanders, the water takes it down, and it topples over and falls hilariously into the Kanmon Strait. The video ends with the tagline, "Straits with such a fast flow. Why don't you come and see? Come on Kanon Straits!".

Along with the promotional video, there is also an official campaign website which shows off the impressive stats of the new Kaisendon. According to the website the kaiju weighs 120,000 tonnes and stands at 751 feet tall. The site also has some stats about the strait, for example the body of water is 2,132 feet wide, and the current tops at 9.4 knots.
