The Wonder Woman movie is set to tell the origin of Diana of Themyscira, starting all the way back when she was a child. Fans shouldn't be surprised to find that young Diana was precocious and every bit as brave and willful as her adult self.
Star Gal Gadot, who plays the adult Diana, described her character's younger self, played by Emily Carey, with a sense of admiration.
"When you first meet Diana on the island she is about 5-6," Gadot says in an interview," and she is this curious little girl who is very courageous, very sassy, and naughty, and she's very inspired by her aunt and she wants to learn how to fight. But she's being very sheltered and very protected by her mother, who does not allow her to do so, but she finds her ways. She has this spark in her. She has this fire in her eyes and she eventually gets her way."
The aunt Gadot mentions is Antiope, general of the Amazon army, played by Robin Wright. Here mother is Queen Hippolyta, played by Connie Nielsen, who is naturally protective of the young princess.

Before she was Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot), she was Diana, princess of the Amazons, trained to be an unconquerable warrior. Raised on a sheltered island paradise, Diana meets an American pilot (Chris Pine) who tells her about the massive conflict that's raging in the outside world. Convinced that she can stop the threat, Diana leaves her home for the first time. Fighting alongside men in a war to end all wars, she finally discovers her full powers and true destiny.
Wonder Woman is directed by Patty Jenkins, from a screenplay by Allan Heinberg & Geoff Johns, story by Heinberg & Zack Snyder and Jason Fuchs, and stars Gal Gadot, Chris Pine, Connie Nielsen, Robin Wright, Danny Huston, Elena Anaya, Lucy Davis, Saïd Taghmaoui, Ewen Bremner and David Thewlis.
Wonder Woman was created by William Moulton Marston for DC Comics. She made her first appearance in All Star Comics #8 in 1941 and has gone on to become a feminist icon and one of DC Comics' most beloved and recognizable characters. Though she had a popular television series in the 1970s starring Lynda Carter, the Wonder Woman movie will be the character's first time headlining a film.
Wonder Woman opens in theaters June 2, 2017.
