Television's original Batman left an indelible impact on pop culture, as evidenced by the heartfelt reactions and tributes paid to Adam West in the wake of his passing.
West played Batman in 120 episodes and a movie over three years in the '60s, earning his status as an icon to multiple generations of fans. Many of the people he's impact shared some wonderful stories of interactions with West, including another fellow Batman actor Val Kilmer.

Kilmer portrayed the Caped Crusader in the 1995 film Batman Forever.
Joel Schumacher's followup to the Tim Burton films were widely panned, forgoing the dark and gothic elements for drenched neon and campiness. The film was more akin to the original Batman series, but was widely out of place in the established continuity. Basically, it was meant to sell action figures.
Nevertheless, the movie exists and thus Kilmer and West are part of the same elite club. It's great to see Kilmer pay respects to the man who helped pave the way for the character's strong cultural status.
West passed away in Los Angeles at age 88 after a battle with leukemia, surrounded peacefully by his family. He is survived by his wife Marcelle, his six children, five grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren.
