Justice League Reshoot Details Point to Chaotic Scheduling and Increasing Costs
The campaign to bring Justice League to theaters has been a long and cursed one for Warner Bros. [...]
Scheduling Conflict$
According to Variety, Warner Bros. is having a hard time wrangling the cast of Justice League together for reshoots, which have reportedly grown more time-consuming and expensive than anyone thought. Instead of the usual weeks of of re-shoots, and upwards of $10 million in costs, Justice League is now reportedly at two months of reshoots, with costs approximating $25 million.
More frustrating for WB and DC Films, however, has been the cost of logistical challenges of getting the Justice League stars back in costume and on set for such a long extra span of time. Gal Gadot and Ben Affleck are said to be available, but Flash actor Ezra Miller has the sequel to the Harry Potter prequel Fantastic Beasts currently in production, which has forced WB to ferry him back and forth constantly.
The latest Justice League trailer teased the possible return of Henry Cavill's Superman; Cavill's Superman will indeed be back for the film, but it's said that his simultaneous commitment to Tom Cruise's Mission: Impossible 6 will force DC/WB to do reshoots with Cavill rocking his M:I6 character's mustache, which will have to be removed digitally in post-production.
The reshoots, as a whole, are reportedly being used to inject Justice League with some Whedon-brand snappy dialogue, and better "connective tissue" between the massive superhero action set pieces that Snyder shot. As us pointed out, this sort of 'Frankenstein' approach to salvaging or reshooting films isn't a complete death knell for a blockbuster movie of this scale; Brad Pitt's World War Z and Disney/Lucasfilm's Rogue One both overcame such challenges in order win big at the box office.
