Last Spring, as Gotham's third season came to a close, it was revealed that Drew Powell would be going through a major shift in his character. Butch Gilzean was no more, having been shot in the head by Barbara. Instead, the man would return in Season 4 as the resurrected comic villain, Solomon Grundy.

Now that the character has finally debuted on the Batman prequel series, we caught up with Powell about his new role. In the interview, which you can watch above, the Gotham star told us how he found out he was becoming Grundy.

"I got a call from John Stephens, who's running the show now, and he said, "Okay, I got three things,'" Powell recalled. "[He said] 'First, we love you and we want you to come back,' which was a great place to start. 'Two, you're gonna get shot in the head at the end of Season 3. And, three, you're gonna come back as Solomon Grundy."

With a smile on his face, Powell said that the news made him do a "little happy dance" in his living room. As the interview went on, the actor said that he wasn't all that familiar with Grundy until about two years before Stephens gave him the new role.

"It's funny," Powell told us. "The first time I ever found out who [Solomon] Grundy was, my son had gotten a Happy Meal, and he got the Grundy toy in it. I said, 'Who is this guy?'"

Gotham airs on Thursday nights at 8 p.m. ET on Fox.
