Toonami to Air 'Black Clover' this December

Adult Swim is about get quite the heavy-hitter with Black Clover's English broadcast premiere coming to the Toonami block on December 2.

You should probably buy your ear-plugs now.

As announced on their Facebook page, starting on December 2, Toonami will air a half hour earlier with Dragon Ball Super leading the charge at 10:30EST. Following that will be Dragon Ball Z: The Final Chapters at 11:00PM, and Black Clover will capitalize on that strong lead in, premiering at 11:30PM. They have also announced their updated schedule for December, which includes English broadcast versions of JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Stardust Crusaders and Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans:

It will be interesting to see how Toonami fans react to Black Clover since it has become a very divisive series despite only airing seven episodes in Japan so far. Although Studio Pierrot has a lot of faith in this project, fans have been wary.

The main character, Asta, stands out for all of the wrong reasons when he spent the better part of the series' first two episodes constantly yelling - but that is reflective of his character in the original manga, surprisingly. Even though he's become less abrasive once the story really gets going, first impressions are very important for brand new shonen series like this. Daniel Reid, Asta's English Voice Actor, has a tough road ahead of him for sure.

If you are unfamiliar with Black Clover, the series debuted in Shonen Jump back in 2015 from creator Yuki Tabata. The since popular series follows two young boys named Asta and Yuno who are growing up in a world where magic is everything. Asta, unfortunately, seems to have been born without magical powers while Yuno is a young prodigy whose magical powers rival that of the strongest magic users in the Clover Kingdom, the Magic Knights. The story then follows the two young boys as they strive to become the strongest wizard in the Clover Kingdom, The Wizard King.

Studio Pierrot's Black Clover adaptation premiered in Japan on October 3 and is currently slated for a hefty 51 episodes. You can currently find the Japanese language version with English subtitles on Crunchyroll, and the English language dub on FunimationNow if you want to give it a test drive before its official broadcast.
