Wizards get ready, because we finally got some news about the upcoming Fairy Tail anime film that is in the works.

The most recent issue of Kodansha's Weekly Shonen Magazine finally revealed information on the film that was first announced back in May of 2015. The film is officially titled Fairy Tail: Dragon Cry and now has a release date for Japan, May 6. We received a new poster with art of Natsu half transformed as a dragon and a tag line from the manga creator Hiro Mashima pictured below. The tag line says, "That power... is it hope or destruction?

The issue not only reveled the new poster and ominous quote but also revealed the cast and characters design as well. The original cast will be returning to voice our characters such as Natsu and Lucy, but the characters will be getting new outfits for the film.

There are also three new original characters for the film that have been revealed. We will be seeing:

  • Sonia, a beautiful young woman
  • Animus, A man who looks like a king based on his garments, and whose expression suggests he has an ulterior motive
  • Zash, a man who looks both evil and strong

Manga creator Hiro Mashima has been involved on the entire production of the film, serving as the executive producer. He is drew the new characters, almost 200 storyboard pages for the film, and the new key visual above. The film is directed by Tatsuma Minamikawa, who has well known for his work on episodes of Attack on Titan and the Naruto Shuppuden Movie. He will be working at the legendary A-1 Pictures.

For those not familiar with the Fairy Tail series, you need to catch up before the new movie. The series follows a guild of young, powerful wizards.The series is set in a fictional Earth, a place where wizards and magic rule. A boy named Natsu teams up with an unlikely friend Lucy Heartfilia with dreams of becoming a powerful wizard. To date, there are more than 250 episodes of the acclaimed series.

Fairy Tail Dragon Cry is set to release on May 6, 2017
