Archie Comics has provided ComicBook.com with an exclusive preview of September’s Archie #24, part two of “The Heart of Riverdale,” which sees the town struggling to deal with the car wreck that left Betty Cooper in a wheelchair.

Besides Betty’s injuries, Mark Waid and former Josie and the Pussycats artist Audrey Mok will deal with the ramifications for Reggie Mantle, who has been jailed for his role in the crash, and with Archie, who finds himself separated from his longtime best friend and sometime girlfriend.
“Betty Cooper has long been the center and the heart of Riverdale, though no one realized it until now,” Waid told ComicBook.com. “Betty refuses to play the role of victim, but her overprotective father is certainly playing the role of warden. He’s keeping Betty away from anyone and anything he thinks could cause her harm–including Archie.”
“In this issue, we get a closer look at how Betty tries her best and makes a come back after the accident,” added Mok. “At the same time, how does the town react to Reggie Mantle being arrested?”

Archie #24 is due in stores on September 27th.
