Jared Leto Reveals Some Of The Strange Gifts He Sent To His Suicide Squad Co-Stars

You can say whatever you want about Suicide Squad's take on the Joker, but you can't question Jared Leto's commitment to making the part his.

To get into character, Leto sent numerous gifts to the cast. He sent a live rat to Margot Robbie, a set of bullets to Will Smith, a set of sticky Playboy magazines to Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, and a dead pig to the whole group. If all that wasn't enough, he also sent everyone in the cast used condoms and anal beads, because why not? The gifts were all something that the Joker would find amusing, and Leto elaborated a bit on his reasoning to E Online.

"I did a lot of things to create a dynamic to create an element of surprise, a spontaneity and to really break down any kind of walls that may be there," the Oscar winner told me while promoting the movie at CinemaCon in Las Vegas. "The Joker is somebody who doesn't really respect things like personal space or boundaries."

Will Smith seems to think he succeeded.

"He went full Joker," Smith said, adding, "He really set the tone. He wasn't playing with it. He was dead serious as an actor. He was going in and he was 100 percent going into this character."

In fact, Leto's Joker-esque gifts seemed to unify the cast in a weird way, prompting them to send the pig back with a return message.

"That was a good gift because it had the effect of unifying us as a group because then it became us against him," Akinnuoye-Agbake said. "We sent the messenger back with the dead pig and our own personalized message. It got the ball rolling."

We'll finally get to see Leto's vision for the clown prince of crime on August 5th, 2016.
