No matter how you felt about the film as a whole, it was hard to dislike Ben Affleck’s performance as Bruce Wayne. The guy played a great version of Frank Miller’s Batman, and he easily earned his own solo movie.
Not only is Affleck starring in The Batman, but it’s been announced that he will direct the project as well. With successful – even Oscar winning – turns as the director of The Town and Argo, Affleck seems like a great choice to bring The Batman to life.
We know that Batman, Alfred, Jim Gordon, and Deathstroke will be featured in the movie. Beyond that, the rest of the cast is being kept a secret – but that can’t stop us from dreaming!
Take a look through the slide show to see our picks for five characters we think should appear in The Batman.
Dick Grayson
Dick Grayson may not be Robin anymore, but his time with Batman helped create the Nightwing persona that everyone loves so much.ย
Jason Todd is long gone – Batman v Superman made that very clear – but Dick’s whereabouts were never addressed. Given Bruce’s age, it’s likely his former sidekick is floating around somewhere. At the time of BvS, it’s also likely Nightwing had already been created.ย
Bruce will need some help in his solo film, that’s for sure. Since the story will be more grounded than Justice League, that help will likely come from more realistic characters – like Nightwing.
ย
Barbara Gordon
Speaking of help, Batman is at his best when a whole team is surrounding him. Part of this great chemistry comes from Barbara Gordon.
Since Jim Gordon is getting introduced in Justice League, the first appearance of his daughter shouldn’t be far off. The eventual team-up between Bruce and Barbara is probably a little ways off, but The Batman would be a good time to lay the ground work for their relationship.
ย
Selina Kyle
It’s hard to imagine Batman having his own movie without Selina Kyle being involved. She doesn’t even have to be Catwoman! Fans just want to see Selina using her unique ways to get in Bruce’s head.
The relationship between Bruce and Selina is one that helps define Batman’s character throughout his entire story. One could argue that behind Alfred, Joker, and Jason Todd, no character is more important to Batman lore than Catwoman.
ย
Deadshot
Deadshot has already starred in Suicide Squad, but so much of his backstory in that movie revolved around his constant struggles with Batman.
If this film is going to take place in Gotham, and feature more grounded villains, than Deadshot should be involved in some fashion – even if it’s just a part of Batman’s flashbacks.
Deathstroke is supposed to serve as one of the main villains, so a large role isn’t necessary for Deadshot, just enough to help explain his hatred towards Batman.
ย
Harvey Dent
Harvey Dent has one of the best character arcs in all of Batman lore, and DC needs to begin introducing him soon if fans are going to get behind his turn into Two-Face.
The DA-turned-villain has a story that weaves it’s way in and out of Batman’s for years and years. The two backgrounds are almost intertwined at this point. One of the only logical reasons he didn’t have an appearance in Batman v Superman was the already long list of characters featured in the film.
