In the show's second season, Stein unexpectedly gained a daughter named Lily as a result of a time aberration and now that he has a family, Garber says that it's changing things for Stein.
"A lot goes on—in his real family life, and his family life on [the Waverider] and he has to choose some things and make some decisions," Garber said. "Martin is questioning everything in season 3, which I think is very appropriate—for someone of my age and also of Martin's temperament."
Garber also said that he as an actor was personally interested in the human side of the show.
"I'm not well-versed in this world that I'm inhabiting—so the most interesting part for me is the human connection. For me, it's all about what happens between people so when they introduced Lily, I was very happy about that... and continue to be," he said.
So, what does Stein's questioning mean for his Firestorm partner Jax? We already know that Jax and Stein won't exactly see eye to eye in season 3 and if Stein does choose to leave the Legends to be with his daughter, it would be an interesting reversal of the first season where Stein had to drag Jax away from his real-life family to join the team. It would also leave the team without Firestorm, as both Stein and Jax are needed to bring the force to life.
Fans will just have to wait until the new season in October to find out what Stein chooses.
Legends of Tomorrow returns to Tuesday nights at 9 p.m., following new episodes of The Flash, in October.
Once reunited, the Legends will challenge the Time Bureau’s authority over the timeline and insist that however messy their methods may be, some problems are beyond the Bureau’s capabilities. Some problems can only be fixed by Legends.
