DC Films' Aquaman will begin filming this week at Village Roadshow Studios in Queensland, Australia.
The new comes from an article in the Courier Mail about the push to authorize more tax rebates to attract more Hollywood Studios to the area for filming.
"The Premier [Annastacia Palaszczuk] is calling on the Federal Government to significantly boost tax incentives for big budget movies to help the Gold Coast become the next 'Hollywood'.
"The filming of blockbuster Aquaman, starting this week at Village Roadshow Studios, will create more than 600 jobs and inject more than $100 million into the local economy as the city further cements its reputation as a filming destination."
Australia has become an attractive filming location for big-budget Hollywood blockbusters. Other recent films to shot in Australia include Thor: Ragnarok, Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales, and Kong: Skull Island.
Aquaman was first announced in 2014, along with the rest of Warner Bros. DC Extended Universe film slate. Aquaman will become the sixth movie in the DCEU, following Man of Steel, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, Suicide Squad, Wonder Woman, and Justice League.
James Wan will direct Aquaman. Game of Thrones breakout Jason Momoa will star as Arthur Curry, the half-human heir to the throne of the underwater realm of Atlantis. Amber Heard will play Aquaman's Atlantean love, Mera. Patrick Wilson will play Aquaman's brother, Prince Orm, also known as the supervillain Ocean Master. Nicole Kidman will play Aquaman's mother, Queen Atlanna, and Temuera Morrison will play Aquaman's father. Dolph Lundgren will play King Nereus of the rival kingdom of Xebel. Yahya Abdul-Mateen II will play Aquaman's archenemy, Black Manta.
