Malcom Merlyn (John Barrowman) has been a part of The CW's Arrowverse since its humble beginnings but now, it looks like that ride might be over. Barrowman — who plays the mostly-bad-sometimes-good character across the numerous CW shows — took to the stage at Planet Comicon where he revealed that he wouldn't be reprising his role as Merlyn in any of the Arrowverse shows next Fall as the new seasons begin to roll around.
The news was revealed by Twitter user Pilar Pedraza (via Heroic Hollywood), who happened to be live tweeting Barrowman's panel.

Should Barrowman indeed leave to Arrowverse, he'll leave quite the void behind. Starting out on Arrow, Barrowman has portrayed Merlyn in over sixty episodes over the course of the show's five seasons. Originally a friend of the entire Queen Family and father of Oliver's best friend Tommy, Merlyn was eventually revealed to be a part of the League of Assassins.
After his time on Arrow and a few cameos in The Flash, Merlyn joined Damien Darhk (Neal McDonough) and Eobard Thawne (Matt Letscher) to form the Legion of Doom and serve as the primary antagonist on this season of Legends of Tomorrow.
Recently, Merlyn has been confirmed to show up in a big way during the season five finale of Arrow. With Barrowman seemingly confirming his time in the Arrowverse has come to an end, will Malcolm Merlyn meet his untimely end? You'll have to wait and find out as the season finale of Arrow airs on Wednesday, May 24.
