Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson On What Attracts Him To Black Adam
It's been a long time coming, but things are finally getting underway for Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson and his Black Adam role. The actor has been attached to the iconic DC villain for some time, but news about Black Adam and even Shazam has been kept on the down-low over the years. However, DC Entertainment and Warner Bros. are slowly but surely beginning to tease details about the heroes and their respective films. With Johnson firmly on-board to play Black Adam, the actor has recently opened up more about his take on the character. And, recently, the former WWE star revealed why he was so attracted to the character.
Speaking with We Got This Covered, Johnson took time to speak about his role in the big-screen Baywatch before talking a bit about the DC Extended Universe. It was there Johnson explained that it is Black Adam's backstory that caught his attention.
"I love the idea that is backstory is that he starts off as a slave. I feel like when somebody is oppressed that way but has a bigger ambition and a greater belief than the oppression that's holding him down - that's a powerful place to be. [His] family getting killed, coming back from that; There's a lot of elements about Black Adam that have attracted me for a very, very, very, very, very long time," Johnson gushed.
"I'm excited about it, man. You know, and Black Adam has been with me probably going ten years that Black Adam is in our zone And [there's] the great meetings with been having with Geoff Johns and the guys over at DC, Warner Bros, New Line."
For now, there is no release date attached to Black Adam and Shazam, but fans are looking forward to more updates on the project. So far, there is no actor attached to the role of Shazam, but Johnson has previously thrown a name into the role's hate. The actor has said he would be interested in seeing Armie Hammer play the hero opposite him.
There's no official synopsis for Shazam or Black Adam, but here's what Johnson had to say about the latter project over on Instagram:
"One of the most powerful anti-heroes on the planet is coming. And he is coming in hot. Brace yourself for BLACK ADAM! It's a new dawn."
