When you look back through the years of movies, specifically DC films, you’ll notice a pretty interesting trend. With the exception of the The Batman Movie in 1966, every film that includes the Joker has won an Academy Award.
That’s right, the Clown Prince Of Crime has gone three-for-three in Academy Award ceremonies since then.
It’s also worth noting that the last super hero movie to win an Oscar was one of these films, almost eight years ago.
Take a look through at all three Joker films to earn Oscar’s, and what they earned the awards for.
Batman (1989)
Michael Keaton starred as Batman in the 1989 film from Tim Burton, but one of the biggest draws to the film was Jack Nicholson’s performance as The Joker.
The movie put Batman back in the movie spotlight, and it even earned Warner Bros. an Academy Award.
Anton Furst and Peter Young won the Oscar for Best Art Direction.ย

The Dark Knight
Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight trilogy is often known as the best series of comic book movies in history, and a large part of that praise is due to one man.
Heath Ledger wowed audiences for hisย portrayal in the second film of the trilogy, The Dark Knight. The actor sadly passed away shortly after he made the film, but his effort was rewarded nontheless.
Heath Ledger won the Oscar for Best Actor in a Supporting Role, and The Dark Knight also took home the gold for Best Sound Editing.

Suicide Squad
There was plenty or uproar for this award at the Oscar’s this weekend, as Suicide Squad was given pretty harsh reviews from critics.
However, the work of Alessandro Betolazzi, Giorgio Gregorini, and Christopher Allen Nelson was well worth the praise. Their work on the hair and makeup design was the best of the year. Killer Croc’s look alone was enough to earn them the award.
Maybe Suicide Squad has cracked the code. Use Joker in a movie: win an Oscar.
