In a new trailer for Gotham Season 3, David Mazouz and his character Bruce Wayne get the spotlight, teasing Bruce's journey this year. After discovering the secrets of Indian Hill, Hugo Strange, and the death of his parents, Bruce apparently takes a sabbatical in the time between seasons to research the real threat, the Court of Owls.

"Bruce left Gotham for his own safety," Mazouz says in the featurette. A clip then shows, of Bruce speaking to Selina, telling her he "needed time to research them," and "these people are powerful." He warns her to be careful, as their friendship may now be endangering her, but Selina doesn't appear to be too worried. It's all foreshadowing the events coming later in the season, when Bruce decides to take things to the "next level" with Selina, as Mazouz previously teased to ComicBook.com.

"Once he came back, he knew that he had to deal with them," Mazouz says of the Court. "He decides that he is going to bring them down and bring them to justice." The trailer then teases that the masked man seen in the first Season 3 trailer is in fact a Talon of the Court of Owls, and abducts Bruce to bring him to them.

The Court of Owls was first teased early in Season 2, and revealed towards the end of last year as the group controlling Hugo Strange's actions and experiments at Indian Hill. Created by Scott Snyder and Greg Capullo only recently in the pages of DC Comics, the Court of Owls is a secret society of Gotham's oldest families who have been pulling the strings and directing the development of the city for decades, if not centuries. Their reveal at the end of the year added a new wrinkle into Bruce's quest for vengeance and justice, and it's only going to intensify. On top of that, Bruce Wayne has a doppelganger running around Gotham City with his own agenda.

Gotham Season 3 kicks off Monday, September 19 at 8 p.m. on FOX.
