Season three of Gotham has been intense, with death, murder at every turn, mind-altering blood pathogens, and villains that seem to be getting worse by the moment. There's also the looming threat of the Court of Owls, Bruce trying to deal with being under constant surveillance and worry and still go through puberty, and much, much more.
With things coming to a head at the mid-season finale, we have Ed Nygma and Penguin about to be at war, Bruce now fed up with the Court of Owls, and still more villains waiting in the wings.
With all that in mind, these are what we see happening in the second half of season three. Let's start with a laugh, shall we?
Jerome Comes Back to Life - To Be Murdered Again
Jerome is back, baby. He's been teased for the last few weeks, and actor Cameron Monaghan has played a fun game, posting a picture then deleting it seconds later, posting little audio clips of him laughing; yeah, he has fun with this character. But remember, they've only ever called Jerome the "proto-Joker," as in an early version that isn't the real deal. Jerome is going to burn brightly, but another, and final death is almost assured for him. It's a shame - Cameron does a damn good job with Jerome... But if he gets killed by another mirthful character who thinks he's not pulling off the routine well enough, well, that could lead to even more fun. And wouldn't his return just to kill him off again be a hell of a joke?prevnext
Barbara Rejects Redemption
Comicbook.com has talked a lot with Erin Richards over the years, and when talking about her character Barbara Kean, the issue of "redemption" is almost always a topic. Well, with Barbara looking to become the "Queen of Gotham," her arc is almost certainly leading to another major turning point. First, she was manipulated into letting her dark side out. Then, she tried to fight back against it, and her moment of clarity came before her literal fall and a coma. Coming out of that, she has been nearly whole, but some greater purpose is missing. When the opportunity is presented to her to either turn back to the proverbial light side or go fully dark, the only real question is whether she even hesitates before she steps fully into the shadows.prevnext
Bruce & Selina Don't Make It Through the Spring
Sorry BatCat fans, but there's virtually no way this relationship makes it through the end of season 3. There's the obvious complication of Selina's mom (who may have a reverse psychology affect, approving of Bruce and thus turning Selina off) coming into the picture, the constant danger due to the Court of Owls (side bet - they mostly regress into the shadows and don't truly become big bads until next year, with Thomas "Doppel-Bruce" Wayne in tow), and the fact that hey, this is the future Batman and Catwoman we're talking about. They're the on-again off-again couple, not the steady-as-she-goes duo. When these two split (not if - when) look for it to lead to a dark turn for Selina, and for Bruce to get pretty mopey and isolated after it.prevnext
But Jim and Lee Figure It Out
What's a little "killing your fiancee to save your life even if you don't realize it" between former loves? Yup, that's the prediction here for Jim Gordon and Leslie "Lee" Thompkins, who by the end of Season 3 will have found a way to start anew. It'll be their happily ever after... until it isn't again next year.prevnext
Penguin Goes on a Rampage - and a Series Regular Dies
You know what they say about lovers scorned. Well, Penguin being a lover scorned is about the worst case scenario: he's already more than a little batty, he's in a position of power, and we've seen what his thirst for vengeance has resulted in in the past (remember when he FED HIS STEP-SIBLINGS TO THEIR MOTHER?). Yeah, Penguin will take his licks, and lose his Mayorship, but you can bet that by the end of this season, he will have his revenge, and someone from the main cast will die because of it; best bets, sadly, are either Butch or Tabitha, as they don't have too much of a comic book legacy (if any) to protect, but anyone else in this war, like Nygma and Babs, are at least possibilities, too. It's a scary time to be Penguin's enemy.prev
