San Diego Comic Con may be over, but fans are not done buzzing about the convention’s heroic reveals. Warner Bros. made a showing at SDCC with Justice League, and the film dropped a new trailer filled with unseen footage. And, now, one shot has fans wondering if it introduced a new hero to the DC Extended Universe.
The new Justice League trailer can be watched above, but you will want to skip ahead to a specific time-stamp. At about a 1:25, a collage of scenes flicks by as Steppenwolf can be heard saying, “No protectors here. No Lanterns. No Kryptonians.” The final nod appears when voiceover play on top of a scene with Bruce Wayne staring at what appears to be a hologram of Superman.
However, if you take a closer look, the image doesn’t really look like it is Superman at all.
At the 1:40 mark or so, fans are given a closer look a the hologram. The display is only shown from the back, but its fluttering red cape seems to imply fans are looking at Superman. Pairing the scene with Steppenwolf’s “Kryptonian” line isn’t coincidental, but the cape does eventually move to reveal something that doesn’t scream Superman.
When the cape is brushed back, fans are shown a bit of the Kryptonian’s legs. They are far more slender than the ones Clark Kent walks around on, and they are barren; There is no skin-tight blue suit covering up the hero’s limbs. The top of some knee-high red boots are also shown, and the glimpse has got fans wondering if Justice League might just nod to Supergirl when it debuts.
That’s not to say the film or its second-half will actually see Supergirl suit up against Steppenwolf. It is hard to think that Warner Bros. managed to cast and film Kara Zor-El without anyone noticing, but Supergirl may just be referenced in passing. After all, Bruce has been looking for enhanced people since Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice rolled around; He could have learned about Kara after her older cousin seemingly passed.
