‘Supergirl’ Recap With Spoilers: “Girl of Steel”

Tonight’s season three premiere begins with Kara (Melissa Benoist) walking through a field while a song pay in the background; Mon-El (Chris Wood) follows and the two embrace — it’s revealed to be a dream sequence as Kara suddenly wakes as she’s floating about National City.

Car alarms and sirens rage on below and she takes off, flying towards the source of the commotion, which happens to be a squad of patrol cars pursuing a semi truck. Alex and Maggie are almost shot by one of the gunmen in the back of the semi before Kara flies in and blocks the bullets.

After a brief hand to hand skirmish, Kara stops the semi truck cold in its tracks, saving a family stranded in their car at the last possible second. “Supergirl, you’re the best!” the little boy in the car exclaims.

At the DEO, Kara meets up with Winn and J’onn to discuss the pursuit. Kara has a very no-nonsense attitude about her, cutting out all sorts of small talk and talking strictly about “business.”

We see one of this season’s new villains — Morgan Edge (Adrian Pasdar) — as he’s addressing a board meeting. He’s expressing a strong interest in revitalizing one of National City’s poorer areas. HE comes off as the typical sleezy businessman.

Lena and James Olsen are both a part of the group Edge is addressing and they both speak up against his ideas. And the three share a tense moment.

We now see a tv screen where it’s revealed Cat Grant has been made the President’s Press Secretary. And after a team meeting at CatCo, Morgan Edge appears on the tv revealing he’s buying CatCo.

Lena and Kara talk about the new acquisition and question if Edge can actually go through with the purchase of the media conglomerate. Lena apologizes about her role in Mon-El’s apparent death; a shaken Kara overhears that a robbery is in progress so she speeds off.

The whole DEO crew — minus Kara — is together having a drink at the bar. Back at DEO HQ, Winn reveals he’s tracked the blood of the mercenary from the semi earlier. His name is Robert DuBois, but he goes by Bloodspot. Winn then says the computer has been hacked and Kara flies off.

She flies to an apparent Army base where she’s ambushed by Bloodsport. Her watch buzzes — and thinking it’s an emergency, she flies off to the CatCo building. James approaches her about doing her day job first and Kara gets upset that James used the emergency alarm for her day job. After a tense moment, Kara tells James she quits her job as a reporter.

Winn tells J’onn and Alex that DuBois that he stole the cloaking technology from the army base that would allow him to drop over nuke over National City without anyone noticing what he was about to do.

Lena approaches Morgan Edge in his office and the two converse about his development plans. Morgan reveals he’s going to use CatCo to push his agenda and defame his enemies. After Lena leaves, DuBois walks in, revealing the two are working together.

Alex approaches Kara at her apartment about quitting her job. The go back and forth and argue about Mon-El’s sacrifice. After pushing their personal frustrations aside, Alex shares the Bloodsport now has the technology to cloak a nuke.

People begin gathering at an apparent celebration celebrating the Girl of Steel — Supergirl. Kara and J’onn are watching the celebration from a nearby rooftop. Kara asks J’onn if he stills dreams about his family whiling revealing that she’s been dreaming about her mom and Mon-El.

Alex and Maggie share a rather intimate moment over the comm system and Lena takes the stage to reveal the Supergirl statue National City put together. As Kara’s about to fly on the stage, the ground starts shaking while the group struggles to figure out what’s going on.

After some quick problem solving, Kara realizes that Bloodsport isn’t dropping a nuke from the sky, he’s launching it from a submarine under water.

The missile they launched makes contact with the waterfront and the ground begins to cracks open. After focusing on Bloodsport’s heartbeat, Kara is able to locate the submarine underwater. After making contact with the sub, it launches another missile and while Kara is in pursuit, the missile detonates, causing more destruction on land.

Alex keeps radioing for Supergirl over their communication system as an incapacitated Kara keeps sinking lower and lower into the water. Suddenly, she sees a vision of Mon-El telling her to wake up and she promptly lifts the submarine clear out of the water for all of National City to see.

Kara shows up to Lena’s office to discuss Edge’s potential business acquisition.Lena reveals that she bought CatCo and wants Kara to break the story.Lena talks to Kara about coming back to work for her as Edge walks in the office.Kara leaves the two alone to talk and they share a very tense moment before Kara shows up on the balcony in her Supergirl costume.

Kara takes Edge to the top of a ship transporting shipping containers and reveals that she knows that he was behind the attack at the waterfront.She leaves him on the top of the ship and she’s flying back, the camera pans below the water where we see a spaceship crashed.

Alex approaches J’onn at the DEO about attending their wedding — she asks him to walk her down the aisle.J’onn accepts and the two hug.

Kara is looking through pictures of herself and Mon-El.She picks up her phone to text Lena that she’ll see her tomorrow at work.Kara then shows up to the bar to share a drink with the rest of the DEO crew.
