Tyler Ritter has joined the cast of Arrow season five, as a detective new to the SCPD. Ritter joins Star City's boys in blue after Captain Lance leaves following the events of season four. THR first reported the casting, and the role is a recurring one.
Lance, played by Paul Blackthorne, is still a series regular, so despite no longer being on the SCPD's payroll, he'll still be around as well. Echo Kellum was promoted to series regular for season five, and Josh Segarra and Chad L. Coleman have also joined the season five cast, as a district attorney and a villain, respectively.
Tyler Ritter is the son of late actor John Ritter, and has acted in guest roles on series including Modern Family, Grey's Anatomy, and most recently on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and two NCIS series in a crossover. He top-lined The McCarthys on CBS, as well.
Arrow returns to The CW Wednesday, October 5, 2016 at 8pm. It's part of the new four-day 8pm block of DC Superhero shows on The CW, with Supergirl on Monday, The Flash on Tuesday, and DC's Legends of Tomorrow on Thursday. After seasons featuring superpowers, immortals, and magic, series star Stephen Amell says Arrow will return to a more grounded tone for season 5, aside from its crossover with the other three series.
