With new merchandise being released hinting that Ares is in fact the main villain in Wonder Woman, now Batman-News has reported that Harry Potter actor David Thewils will be portraying the character’s human persona.
The report, which corroborates Reddit users accounts of a screening of the film, states that Ares will also be a CG and practical effects character, probably for big battle sequences.
But Thewils will portray the character when he’s not in fight scenes, possibly hearkening to the Brian Azzarello and Cliff Chiang version of the character who was depicted as a short-statured and frail man.
The actor portrayed Professor Lupin in the Harry Potter series of films, and so this marks another entry into a major Warner Bros. film universe for Thewils.
As the movie rapidly approaches its release date, post-production crew are probably finalizing the special effects.
If a final trailer comes out soon, as we’ve been lead to believe, then maybe we can get our first look at Ares in his battle form. As for why Warner Bros. and DC haven’t released Thewils involvement in the cast? It might be on the verge of spoiler territory. We’ll know for sure when Wonder Woman makes her big screen debut.
