Game Informer is a magazine that's usually pretty good at securing some great looking covers – but the forthcoming one for its September 2017 issue looks like it'll take the cake.

The publisher featured its cover in this news story today, and it's for none other than Call of Duty: WWII. And rather than taking the usual route we've come to expect from the publication's covers, this one is far moodier than we expected.

First, the font for Game Informer is a lot more serious, reflective of lettering from print in that era, so you can tell that it means business. The small font on the back with the game's title appears to be matching as well. Finally, the cover spans across both pages, and shows a soldier as he overlooks a battlefield, loaded over with tanks, soldiers, ships and other crafts of war, in one gigantic looking shot.

"After years of future combat, boosting, jetpacking, and exosuits, Call of Duty returns to grounded, gritty combat with one of history's greatest conflicts," the company noted when revealing the cover. "Sledgehammer Games is targeting historical accuracy and a squad's story for the single-player campaign, a terrifying horror tale that lacks the camp and comedy of other recent entries for co-op zombies, and an all new socially-charged multiplayer experience featuring 48-player Headquarters space and War mode. We visited Sledgehammer Games to delve into each of these distinct gameplay offerings, get hands-on time with zombies and multiplayer, and learn exclusive details on many aspects of the game in our cover story."

On top of that, Game Informer also produced a trailer featuring Sledgehammer Games staffers talking about how they were able to get back into Call of Duty development following the successful Advanced Warfare, and taking the direction back to World War II. We weren't able to embed it, so you can watch it here.

This should easily be one of Game Informer's most popular issues, as it will delve deep into the development of the game, as well as the challenges Sledgehammer Games faced when it came to putting it together. The digital issue is available now, and print should be available soon.

Call of Duty: WWII releases on November 3rd for Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC. Don't forget that Amazon Prime members can save 20% when they pre-order.
